Around the branches...
LONDON

One of the many artillery pieces flanking 5 acres of lawn
The London Branch
hosted a wonderful dinner party on June12 in The Queens room of
The Honourable Artillery Company .
The idea of the Summer Dinner, and the dinners which will follow, came
from Colin McLoughlin who has located some extraordinary and highly interesting
venues. Before the meal guests had the opportunity of spending time in
the HAC's museum which houses some of its finest treasures: uniforms,
regalia, and mementos of many campaigns. The Parade Ground especially
is an eye opener: over five acres of beautifully manicured lawn in the
heart of the City of London! Colin's next dinner is on Saturday October
4th and is 'definitely for the Ladies' he says. The venue is the
Ladies Luncheon Room of the East India Club at 16 St James's Square London.
Call Colin on 07860 361084 for a very special night out.
The Christmas Lunch
at the Cafe Royal on December 5th
is nearly sold out. Contact Don Baldry 020 7226 0237.
Barry
Coker
It is with great sorrow that I record the passing of Barry Coker. Barry
served London Branch for neary two decades, and as Chairman for over seven
years. He had been in very poor health for the last eighteen months, a
stroke, which laid him low in December 2001 was followed by a heart attack
two months later. I'm pleased to say that friends visited and called him,
and in spite of a speech impediment caused by the stroke Barry was pleased
to talk. A phone call to Barry was good fun. The Lighthouse Club members
who attended the service remembered Barry for his good humor and fund
raising efforts; the Cafe Royal Lunch was Barry's Baby.
A good man and a good friend gone too soon. D.B.
